In February, Charter Broker Sue Gearan escaped the polar vortex and attended the 2019 Miami Yacht Show at its new location. In between vetting boats, meeting captains and crews, and sampling goodies from top yacht chefs, she toured yachts with clients by appointment. Here is Sue’s choice for the 2019 MYS’s most interesting charter yacht: M/Y BOXER
What About BOXER?
I was first introduced to the famed 112′ WESTPORT when my former boss was looking to refit or build a new yacht and we spent many boat shows touring that particular model. There was just something about it that he & his wife loved, and clearly everyone loves, as it’s one of the top selling designs in the industry.
They did end up building a similar-styled yacht and the interior was done by Marty Lowe, a Ft Lauderdale designer, who is known for her unique contemporary style.
So, it wasn’t a secret that I was very eager to tour BOXER, the 112’ Westport that Marty has recently refit – and it did not disappoint!
So why does everyone love the iconic, US built Westport 112?
Well, first, it’s a very seaworthy and luxurious motor yacht offering classic, American styling with an excellent practical set up for entertaining guests.
The outdoor areas are welcoming. The bridge deck outfitted with generous lounge seating, a sun pad, full-service bar and a hot tub.
With a large beam the Westport allows for an open, spacious salon accented by large and numerous window views. In fact, it rivals the volume of yachts much larger.
They are known for their high performing cruising speeds, quietness and moderate draft – great for cruising in the shallow areas like the Bahamas!
Accommodations
BOXER accommodates 8 guests in four comfortable staterooms.
The Master is located on the lower deck with a king bed and separate his & hers en-suite and a walk in shower. The VIP Queen cabin is forward of the galley en-suite with a shower. There are 2 identical twin cabins on the lower deck both en-suite with showers.
A large open concept main salon and dining area with a game table perfect for entertaining. The country-kitchen galley is a great way to hang with the chef a bit.
There is nothing lacking in the water toy department with a brand new 40ft Intrepid, a 16ft dinghy, a wave-runner, a jet ski, 2 paddleboards, a slide and a floating island.
Raves & Rates
I do think BOXER is the perfect family yacht with its fabulous layout and amenities. The weekly rate is $55,000 plus all expenses.
