1. 🏝️ Cape Air (9K)

Cape Air is a regional carrier that uses smaller propeller planes, which is typical for this route. They have a connection agreement with JetBlue at San Juan (SJU). Also connects San Juan to smaller islands in the USVI and BVI (Tortola, St. Thomas, Nevis, etc.). JetBlue services: Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and St. Maarten (SXM)

  • Official Website: https://www.capeair.com/
  • General/Reservations (US & USVI): 1-800-CAPE-AIR (1-800-227-3247)
  • BVI-Specific Number: 284-495-2100
  • Customer Care Hours: Monday–Sunday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM EST
  • Tortola (EIS) Airport Phone: 284-495-1440 (for baggage assistance or immediate airport questions)
  • Group Bookings: For special needs (like groups, pets, or unaccompanied minors), it’s recommended to call their reservations number for assistance.

2. ✈️ InterCaribbean Airways (JY)

InterCaribbean is a regional airline based in the Turks and Caicos Islands that connects many Caribbean destinations.

  • Official Website: https://www.intercaribbean.com/
  • Reservations (Puerto Rico/USA): +1 (888)-957-3223
  • Group Travel: They offer special fares for 10 or more passengers traveling on the same itinerary. You can fill out their dedicated Group Ticket Request Form on their website for a quote.
  • General Office Hours: 07:00 AM to 07:00 PM daily (Caribbean Time)

3. 🌴 Caribbean Airlines (BW)

Caribbean Airlines, the flag carrier of Trinidad and Tobago, also services the SJU-EIS route.

  • Official Website: https://www.caribbean-airlines.com/
  • Head Office Phone (Trinidad, WI): +1 (868)-669-3000
  • Group Travel: Their Group Desk handles bookings for international groups of 10 persons or more to qualify for a group discount on classic fares.
  • Group Booking: It is best to visit their website’s “Contact Us” or “Group Travel” section, as their primary contact channels are often for immediate flight changes or customer service; a specialized team will assist you.

I highly recommend calling the specialized Group Travel contact numbers or filling out the group request forms for InterCaribbean and Caribbean Airlines first, as they have minimum group sizes and specific pricing structures. For Cape Air, the general reservation line is the best place to start your group inquiry.

Do you have specific travel dates and the number of guests? I could check general flight availability and connection times for you once you narrow down the best airline.

Inter-Island Travel Logistics in the Caribbean

  1. It’s Different from Long-Haul Travel: Inter-island travel is often handled by smaller, regional airlines (like Cape Air, InterCaribbean, or Caribbean Airlines) flying smaller planes.
    • Baggage: Expect stricter weight limits and size restrictions. Packing light is highly recommended.
    • Check-in: You must be prepared to claim your checked baggage from your JetBlue flight in San Juan and then re-check it with the regional carrier for the flight to Tortola (EIS). This is a manual process that requires sufficient connection time.
  2. Flights vs. Ferries:
    • Flights (SJU to EIS): Faster for the longer hop, but more expensive and subject to strict airport protocols (check-in, security, customs).
    • Ferries: Not an option from San Juan to Tortola, but ferries are excellent for hopping between nearby islands, such as within the British Virgin Islands (like Tortola to Virgin Gorda or Jost Van Dyke).
  3. Logistical Complexity: Because you are crossing international borders (Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, Tortola is in the British Virgin Islands), you will go through customs and immigration in both directions.
  4. Group Bookings: For your group, contacting the airlines directly is essential, as they can help coordinate seating, luggage, and potentially offer better group fares than booking online individually.

Do you have your desired dates and number of guests handy? I could help you check for recommended connection times in San Juan to make those inter-island connections go smoothly.
