Happy 4th of July weekend! If you enjoy “hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror”– do not miss this Sunday – July 8th – to see the start of the Marblehead to Halifax, NS Ocean sailboat race.
Steeped in history since 1905; this biennial race will have approximately 80 registered and compliant “seaworthy” vessels with qualified skippers for off shore passages. This is a 360 nautical mile journey with an overnight(s) passage of open water of the Gulf of Maine. Tidal currents from the Bay of Fundy and fog are challenging for the crew.
Leighton O’Connor our local and extremely talented photographer gave me permission to share this 2011 Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race – by Leighton O’Connor . Watching this riveting video becomes real and exciting to us non-racers.
Ask about chartering your own “racing yacht” for the world class Caribbean regatta – Antigua Sailing Week – (April 26-May 2nd, 2014) as a participate or a spectator. I personally recommend the later!
