USVI 2024 Top Yacht Chefs Competition: “Birds of Paradise”
Read about the best chefs, best mixologists, and best-in-show yachts
At this year’s US Virgin Islands annual Yacht Charter Show, the “Top Yacht Chefs” culinary competition chose a theme near and dear to my heart: Birds of Paradise. Chefs, captains and crew were asked to celebrate the famous flower’s color, shape, and vibrancy.
Noted chef Julius Jackson returned to Yacht Haven Grande Marina on St. Thomas as one of this year’s judges. He said this about the challenge presented to the USVI Yacht Charter Show 2024 Culinary Competition participants:
The Culinary Competition brings the essence of the yachts to the forefront, with crew and chef working together, and food brings the crew and guests together, says Chef Jackson.
“So, it’s great to push their imagination and give them a boost of inspiration right before charter season. The idea with the Birds of Paradise theme is for chefs to showcase these beautiful plants that are native to our region as well as the vibrant Caribbean colors they bring with them. Charter chefs should try to bring the colors and the unique shape of this plant and flower to life in their dishes. Also, sourcing local ingredients will give extra points!”
