A few days ago when you were ringing in 2018, ringing out 2017, planning your winter and making New Year’s resolutions, did you think that you would need to know the phrase “bomb cyclone”?

(If you’re wondering, these two terms describe hurricane-like storms that happen when a weather system has a rapid drop in atmospheric pressure and the storm intensifies quickly. Who knew?)
