In the heart of “the other Caribbean” in Belize…you will find wellness and retreat at sea.
This past January, I had the opportunity to sail out of Belize City on the 46ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran TRANQUILO. This beautiful and aptly-named yacht was our wellness and yoga retreat in Belize. While I may not have perfected my yoga headstand on this fam trip, I can confirm that it’s better to practice yoga on the forward deck of your private yacht than on a paddleboard!
YOUR OWN FLOATING HOTEL
By being at sea on a yacht charter, you’re on your own floating hotel. Wellness and yoga practices can be performed on the bow of the boat at sunrise, at sunset, on tiny islands under thatched palapa shades, and also at classes on some of the more populated islands.
Belize is a perfect setting for a rejuvenating wellness and yoga retreat. It’s a natural, spiritual country, filled with Mayan ruins and heritage. The opportunities to be restored with nature and find remote sanctuaries are endless.
Everyone on our wellness and yoga retreat in Belize came away feeling refreshed and, not surprisingly, tranquil.
YOGA WITH THE JAGUAR PRINCESS
In Belize, I met the Jaguar Princess of yoga, Ellen Nicholas. Not only is she professionally-trained to conduct wellness and yoga classes, that girl can cook! Teamed with a select group of yacht Captains, the Jaguar Princess takes you places that you cannot go in a city salon.
Ellen is a dedicated yoga instructor and professional chef. Client’s count on her clean cuisines tailored to their specific health goals. In addition to daily yoga classes, she combines Qi Gong, meditation and pranayama with lessons on how to prepare cleansing, restorative and delicious recipes.
On the S/Y TRANQUILO, there are also plenty of opportunities to swim, snorkel, paddleboard, kayak, fish, explore the islands or just relax.
After more than 30 years since my last visit, I discovered that this diverse country has not changed in its local friendly attitude and the remoteness of the outlying islands.
REDISCOVERING BELIZE
Not only did I rediscover the best sailing within this “2nd greatest barrier reef system”, I met the finely-tuned team of yacht crew, dock staff, office and Belize in-house concierge service. The team was made up of many cultures: English, American, Mayan and Garifuna (South American Carib Indians), created by the charter company that was started in 2001 by a husband and wife team.
What more can one ask for on a vacation for wellness and restoration?
Belikin beer, fresh fish, fresh conch, fresh lobster and FRESH AIR.
