Sail out of Stockholm on S/Y ICHIBAN
Having sailed in the cool month of May in the Stockholm Archipelago (link to early May 2017) with my “charter broker” mates, we experienced the skill and care of Captain Janne and wife/mate/cook Kirstin. Ask me anything about this fabulous sailing yacht and the ease of taking the helm, cranking the winches, and enjoying the traditional Swedish meals carefully prepared by Kirstin. They are a family team, with children of their own, so it is ideal for sailing families looking for an adventure.
What to Expect
For sailors, the archipelago is a paradise. You are not affected by waves, there are always good sailing winds, and there are plenty of routes for an enjoyable week. The archipelago consists of 33,000 islands and the total area covers around 3,500 square km which makes it one of the biggest archipelagos in the world.
Today 70% of these islands belong to the non-profit organization “Skargardsstiftelsen”, which keeps it free from building and other environmental harming projects. During the 17th century, inhabitants made their living on fishing and hunting. Later in the 19th century, farming grew and today tourism is the main occupation.
